THE STORY OF MR MUTI
More than 32 years ago, in the heart of Vereeniging, a passionate angler named Martin Meyer began crafting his own fishing dips while competing with Anker Fishing Club. His goal? To give himself an edge in competitive angling. The results were outstanding—so good, in fact, that fellow anglers quickly took notice.
Soon, Martin’s dips—affectionately known as “Muti”—were being used by top anglers in major competitions, delivering big catches and even bigger wins. By 1998, after years of testing and perfecting his formulas, the brand Mr Muti Angling Supplies was born.
Proven. Trusted. Legendary.
Turning Heads and Beating the Best
Martin vividly remembers out-fishing Springbok legends like Glen Ford and Johan Donald at Steyns, taking home prizes for Biggest Carp and Most Fish Caught—all thanks to his Muti dips. That moment put Mr Muti on the map and proved that his products could outperform even the best in the country.
Growth, Partnerships & Passion
As Mr Muti grew, it became a respected rival to big names like Supercast. Martin teamed up with Bez Bezuidenhout, a renowned Protea angler, to meet the rising demand. Later, Johan Booysen joined the team, and together they took Mr Muti to new heights.
When Bez moved on to another major business venture, Martin Piek, another Springbok angler, came onboard to help steer the ship. In 2010, after Martin Piek relocated to Port Elizabeth, Johan Booysen continued running Mr Muti and proudly does so to this day.
Still Going Strong in 2025
Today, Mr Muti remains a trusted name in South African angling circles—used by champions, beginners, and weekend warriors alike. Despite zero media exposure, the brand thrives purely on results and word-of-mouth reputation.
